今天学习新概念英语第二册28课，的确，越往后会发现课文越难了，课后作业我总是很少全对的。
先抄写一下课文。
Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes ancient myths. He has just bought a new house in the city, but ever since he moved in, he has had trouble with cars and their owners. When he returns home at night, he always finds that someone has parked a car outside his gate. Because of this, Jasper has put up “No Parking” signs outside his gate, but these have not had any effect. Now he has put an ugly stone head over the gate. It is one of the ugliest faces I have even seen. I asked him what it was and he told me that it was Medusa, the Gorgon. Jasper hopes that she will turn cars and their owners to stone. But none of them has been turned to stone yet.

它还有一层意思，就是半熟的，形容牛排5分熟，牛排的单词好像是 steak，对不对？我也记不太清了。

effect 作为名词，有个对应的动词，叫 affect，意思是“影响”
Affect = have an effect on
本课还有个短语—— be able to 是“能”的意思。
与can的区别是，can通常只能用于一般现在时和过去时，而ba able to可以用于所有时态，将来时、完成时都是可以的。
最后我有一个不懂的地方，想请教一下大家。
But ever since he moved in, he has had trouble with cars and their owners.
这一句当中的ever ，到底有什么意思，有什么作用，因为我觉得but since he moved in，这样也是可以的，加上一个ever，我实在不懂。
